Carol Ann Hiort-Lorenzen, BS, RD
Child Nutrition Programs Consultant
Retired Director of Nutrition Education and Food Service
Having retired from positions as a child nutrition director after 36 years,
Carol is currently a Consultant for Child Nutrition Programs. She was
the Director of Nutrition Education and Food Service at the Alum Rock
Union Elementary School District in San Jose for nearly 28 years and Director
at Alameda Unified School District for more than 5 years, as well as a
director for 3 years in the state of Washington. She has taught as an
instructor at numerous colleges and for all three Cal-Pro-NET Centers.
She received her BS in Foods and Nutrition from Walla Walla College in
Washington State and completed her Dietetic Internship in Institution
Management at the University of Washington. She has taken graduate work
at Utah State University, San Jose State University, and completed the
Healthy Food Preparation Course at the California Culinary Academy. Carol
has served as CSFSA president twice and in many capacities for the following:
CSFSA, ASFSA, San Jose Peninsula Dietetic Association, and the Santa Clara-San
Mateo Inter-Agency Nutrition Council. She has been involved in leadership
and standards formation for ASFSA, State of California Commission on Food
and Nutrition, USDA School Food Service, California State NET Dissemination
Project for School Food Service Personnel, and as a district project director
for SHAPE California. Carol has received the CSFSA Moscone Award for Commitment
to Child Nutrition, the NCSFSA Honorary Lifetime Member, California Senate
Assembly Joint Resolution No. 874, Outstanding Program Award at Alum Rock
School District, and the Alameda Unified School District Recognized Employee
Award. Carol has served as chair and a member of the San Jose State University
School Food Service Master's Committee for development of Certificate
Program and Master's Program for Food Service Management and as chair
for Cal-Pro-NET Advisory Council. She is dedicated to training in all
areas of School Food Service.

Lia Robinson, SFNS, RD
Director of Child Nutrition Programs
Moreno Valley USD
Lia Robinson has worked in the child nutrition business for 25 years.
She began her career in the Beverly Hills USD as the Director of Food
Services. She worked for a food manufacturing company as the National
School Program Manager where she was responsible for developing and implementing
a commodity processing program utilizing USDA donated food. She later
returned to school food services and became the Director in a number of
school districts including San Juan Capistrano USD, Pueblo City Schools
(Colorado), Pomona USD, and, for the last 13 years, as Director of Child
Nutrition Programs for the Moreno Valley USD. Lia is a Registered Dietitian
with the American Dietetic Association, is certified by the ASFSA, and
has earned the SFNS credential. She has recently completed her master's
degree in management at the University of Redlands.

Becky
Bettencourt, FSM, CFP
Food Service Manager
Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department
A native of Wardner,
Idaho, Becky graduated from the University of Idaho with a BS degree in
Home Economics, as well as lifetime credentials in Food Science and related
technologies. Her 39 years of experience has been in education and food
service-related fields, with a total of 16 years as a child nutrition
director in Gonzales and Modesto, California. She has taught nutrition
and food service classes at the high school and college levels. Becky
has received several awards, including California Special Recognition
for Excellence in School Food Service, and is a past president of CSFSA.
Over the years, she has truly enjoyed working with all the people in food
service, whom she feels are loving, giving, and service-oriented people.
Becky is currently the Food
Service Manager at the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Dept. in Modesto and
is responsible for feeding about 1600 inmates three meals per day. In
her leisure time, she enjoys cooking, traveling to work on family genealogy,
and enjoying her grandchild.

Violet
Roefs, MS, RD
California Department of Education
Nutrition Services Division
Violet Roefs is a Nutrition Education Consultant in the Nutrition Education
and Training Unit, Nutrition Services Division of the California Department
of Education. She is responsible for coordinating the work of the CAL-PRO-NET
Centers with the State NET goals. A native Californian, Violet did her
graduate work at Pennsylvania State University and has enjoyed a long
and extremely productive career with the California Department of Education.
She holds teaching credentials in the Community College system and a Special
Secondary Credential in Home Economics. Violet is also a Registered Dietitian.
She has initiated professional training classes for Child Nutrition personnel
at all levels of the California educational system. She was the first
recipient of the George Moscone Award for Child Nutrition, the most prestigious
award given for excellence and leadership in the area of Nutrition Education
by the California School Foodservice Association. She has also served
on the Professional Development committee of the ASFSA.

Sandy Queen, MS
Cal-Pro-Net Center Coordinator
San Jose State University
Sandy Queen has been the Coordinator for the Cal-Pro-Net
Center at San Jose State University since January, 2001. She received
her BA degree in Home Economics from the University of California, Santa
Barbara and her MS in Nutritional Science from San Jose State University.
Her early experiences included a position with the Los Angeles Department
of Water and Power as a Home Economist, followed by completion of a Secondary
Teaching Credential in Home Economics/Anthropology and part-time consulting
for Thermador-Waste King. She enjoyed several years as a Medical Sales
Representative and then returned to school to pursue her interest in nutrition
science. Working as a graduate student assistant for the Cal-Pro-Net Center
and as a Food Services Administrator for the San Jose Unified School District
has prepared her to assume the position as Coordinator of the Cal-Pro-Net
Center. She thoroughly enjoys being on the San Jose State University campus
and working with the outstanding professionals in the field of child nutrition.
She is currently active in the NCSFSA.
