BCLAD Spanish Program
Introduction
Earn the credential with maximum marketability!If you hold a valid bilingual teaching credential, you can teach the following:
- English Mainstream Classroom
- Structured English Immersion Classroom
- English Language Development (ELD ) Classroom
- Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) Classroom
- Transitional Bilingual Education Classroom
- Maintenance Bilingual Education Classroom
- Two-Way or Dual Language Immersion Classroom
Mulitple Entry Points
Enter the program as:
- a full-time student
- a part-time student
- an intern in SUP (School-University Partnership) or
- an M.A. candidate in the Critical Research Academy
Program Requirements
The following are required prior to admission:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum GPA: 2.87. An exceptional admit may be considered for GPAs above 2.50 for the last 60 units of coursework.
- Passage of CBEST. No expiration date.
- Passage of the Spanish and Latino Culture Examinations at the entry level. Test scores are valid for 3 years.
- Basic Educational Technology demonstrated by passage of EDIT 122, Microcomputers, or passage of the technology test. Register in SH 404 or call (408) 924-3620.
The following are required prior to student teaching:
- Certificate of Clearance prior to EDEL143A .
Application is in SH 107, Credential Services.
- Subject matter competence (passage of CSET ) required prior to student teaching (EDEL143A/143B).
- Passage of the Spanish and Latino Culture Examinations at the exit level required prior to EDEL 143B.
Application Process
- ATTEND A GROUP ADVISEMENT SESSION: This session is held twice every month. This is an orientation session for all students who want to enroll in the Multiple Subject Credential Program. - APPLY TO THE MULIPLE SUBJECTS TEACHING CREDENTIAL PROGRAM: Follow the general application process for admission to the credential program through the Department of Elementary Education. On the application form, indicate your interest in the Spanish BCLAD Program. Your initial meeting with the advisor in the Department of Elementary Education will help you determine if the Spanish BCLAD Program is right for you. Your file will then be forwarded to the internship program coordinator and you will be contacted for an interview.
