About Your Instructor

Here are some facts about Mrs. Lonna Smith

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Carnegie Mellon University.

She earned her Master of Arts (MA) from San Jose State University.

She has been a teacher for a time. Starting out as a music teacher in Cincinnati, Ohio, she taught instrumental music (band and strings), classroom music and choral music. After moving to California, Mrs. Smith continued teaching classroom and choral music before returning to school to become a Reading/Writing Specialist. She taught in the public schools for a few years and then in several community colleges. Finally, in 1989, she ended up at San Jose State and has no intention of leaving until she retires.

Mrs. Smith lives with her husband and two beautiful dogs. Her son is all grown up and lives and works in the East Bay. To view some family pictures, click HERE.
