At its meeting of May 1, 2000, the 1999-2000 Academic Senate passed the following Senate Management Resolution presented by Michael Katz for the Organization and Government Committee.

SENATE MANAGEMENT RESOLUTION

SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON ACADEMIC INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

 

Whereas: The position of Chief Information Officer no longer exists, and
Whereas: The existing CIO Advisory Board is no longer an appropriate agency for planning and coordinating the services and facilities of information technology, and
Whereas: A new permanent structure for the information technology system has not yet been established, and
Whereas: There is need for temporary channel for faculty and student input into the important decisions affecting information technology on campus that must shortly be made, and
Whereas: A special committee of the Academic Senate will provide a suitable means of faculty and student participation in information technology decision-making and will assist the Senate in devising appropriate policies and procedures in this area, now, therefore, be it
Resolved: That

1. A special committee of the Academic Senate is established pursuant to By-Law 6 to be known as the Special Committee on Academic Information Technology. This Committee is authorized until the 2000/2001 academic year only.

2. Membership of the committee shall be

Ex Officio: Provost (or designee), Vice President for Administration (or designee), Vice President for Student Affairs (or designee), Dean of Continuing Education (or designee), Dean of the Library (or designee).

Faculty: Eight faculty-at-large members, to be nominated by the Executive Committee.

Students: Four students, to be nominated by the Associated Students.

3. The charge of the committee shall be

Pending establishment of the new permanent structure for information technology and related services, the committee shall serve as a channel for communication between faculty and students and the administration in regard to these matters, shall facilitate communication with and between colleges and departments in this area, shall advise and assist in the planning and implementation of information technology and services campus-wide, and shall recommend to the Senate an appropriate permanent structure.

4. The committee is requested to make an interim report to the Senate in Fall 2000 and a further report to the Senate prior to the end of Spring 2001.
