All participants are required to submit a paper to the appropriate unit chair by October 1, 2008.
Faculty members are encourage to nominate students or recent graduates with the understanding
that the student or graduate must also submit a paper for consideration.
Student Essay Prize in Hebrew Bible/History of Israel and Student Essay Prize in New Testament/Early Judaism
Award: One prize of $250 in one of the following areas: Hebrew Bible/History of Israel, or New Testament/Early Judaism
Eligibility: Papers accepted to one of the program units for the upcoming program year.
Requirement: All papers must first be submitted to one of appropriate unit chair by October 1, 2008 and designated as a “Student Essay Prize Submission.” Professors wishing to nominate doctoral or master’s students may submit papers to Mignon R. Jacobs by December 1, 2008.
Regional Scholar Program
Award: One prize of $400. The winner’s paper will be submitted for national recognition at the subsequent SBL Annual Meeting.
Eligibility: Members who have earned their doctoral degrees within the past four years or who are at the ABD stage of their doctoral programs
Requirement: Submit paper to the appropriate unit chair by October 1, 2008. Designate the paper as “Submission for Regional Scholar Program.” Send a copy of the paper to: Mignon R. Jacobs by December 1, 2008.
