Fellow Spartans,

We continue to adjust our campus masking protocols based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) metrics, and conditions related to COVID-19 in Santa Clara County.

As a county, we have now spent three weeks back in the “Medium” level, according to the CDC, which means, per our campus policy, we will again be making changes to our campus masking protocols, which currently require that masks be worn indoors.

As of Monday, January 9, masks will not be required but we are strongly encouraging everyone to wear masks indoors. Masks will continue to be required at the Student Wellness Center and Spartan Food Pantry.

We will communicate expectations about masking to the campus community again before the start of the Spring Semester as we continue to align campus safety measures with CDC Community Level metrics. As Community metrics change, so do the safety measures. See our Health Advisories page for more information.

Signage around campus includes QR codes that outline current campus masking policy status. Please check that status frequently while on campus as we are in a dynamic place with transmission due to the winter as well as holiday breaks.

Testing for Students and Staff

Starting with the Spring 2023 semester, required testing for those on testing protocols will end. Optional, free, PCR testing for faculty, staff, and students will remain available on demand in the Student Wellness Center and Student Union through vending machines.

If you are experiencing symptoms, stay home, limit your exposure to others and wear a mask.

After taking a test, follow the guidance regarding quarantine or isolation based on the test outcome. Here's the updated link to SCC COVID 19 guidelines. Employees should be in contact with their supervisors if they are staying home from work due to symptoms/illness.

Please note that employees with a positive test must contact University Personnel for next steps regarding work status and sick time/leave options. As of January 1, COVID-specific leave has expired and appropriate sick time and/or leave will be applied as applicable. Please contact the following:

Quarantine and Isolation

SJSU standards for quarantine for close contacts and isolation for positive cases continues in line with Santa Clara County guidance. Isolation in University Housing will operate with an isolation-in-place model, prioritizing the allocation of isolation spaces for situations involving cases or roommates with high-risk health concerns.

If an employee is a close contact, they will be notified directly with instructions for next steps.

We’ll continue to communicate whenever there are changes to our policies and approaches. Thank you, as always, for your flexibility.

Sincerely,

Perez
