Bio

Dr. Rod Fatoohi is a tenured Full Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at San José State University (SJSU), California. From August 2000 to August 2025, he served as Department Chair, leading one of the largest engineering departments in the CSU system with approximately 2,000 students, over 70 tenure-line faculty and lecturers, and five undergraduate and graduate programs.

Prior to joining academia in 1996, Dr. Fatoohi spent over eight years as a Research Scientist at NASA Ames Research Center in California. His research contributions at NASA led to several influential publications, including the landmark 1991 paper “The NAS Parallel Benchmarks: Summary and Preliminary Results,” which received the prestigious SC15 Test of Time Award in 2015, recognizing its lasting impact on the field of high-performance computing.

At SJSU, Dr. Fatoohi has developed and taught advanced courses in computer networking and parallel processing, secured multiple research grants, and published more than fifty refereed papers and technical reports. He has also served the university in numerous leadership roles, including as a University Senator and on high-level committees such as the Provost Search, Dean of Engineering Search and Review, and Retention, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) committees at all levels.

In addition to his academic leadership, Dr. Fatoohi continues to contribute to government and industry as a consultant for NASA, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the IT sector. His research interests span computer networking, high-speed computing, supercomputers, and performance analysis.
