Bio
Tianyang Zhou earned her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering and was a postdoctoral researcher in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University.
Her research focuses on smart materials and structural batteries designed for space applications, including wearable electronics, deployable structures, and untethered robotics. She aims to improve energy efficiency, mechanical reliability, and multifunctionality of air and spacecraft in extreme environments.
She values interdisciplinary learning and encourages students to connect theory with real-world applications.
When not pushing the boundaries of aerospace materials, she can be found exploring global cuisines, practicing traditional Chinese martial arts, or planning her next adventure to a U.S. national park.
Research Interests
• Advanced manufacturing of thermoplastics (additive manufacturing combined with traditional
techniques)
• Multifunctional energy storage devices (structural supercapacitors/ batteries, morphing
& conformable batteries)
• Micromechanics and multiphysics modeling (traditional and multifunctional materials)
