The California State University system, including San José State, plans to begin conferring degrees this spring on Japanese Americans whose college education ended when they were interned during World War II. At present, the CSU is seeking individuals who may be eligible to receive these honorary degrees and are willing to appear in outreach materials to be distributed statewide so that as many community members as possible receive this good news. These people may be former internees, or family members of internees who have passed away. If you have questions and might want to participate, please contact Pat Lopes Harris, SJSU media relations director, at 408-924-1748.
Two wartime exhibits are on display now through early 2010 at King Library. "Japanese Internment: From Internment to Segregation," in Special Collections Reading Room 560, features Japanese internment photos and memorabilia. "World War II Revisited," in the Special Collections Exhibit Area on the fifth floor, features posters promoting wartime duties including buying bonds, supporting the government, and encouraging women to join the workforce.
