Lt Col Hayley L. Hartstein

Chair/Professor of Aerospace Studies 

Lieutenant Colonel Hayley L. Hartstein serves as Commander, Detachment 045, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Air Education and Training Command, San Jose State University, California. AFROTC Detachment 045 serves to develop leaders of tomorrow who will go on to fulfill the Air Force mission to fly, fight, and win, represent our core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do, and live up to the rich history of Air Force ROTC.

Lieutenant Colonel Hartstein attended Santa Clara University and earned her commission in 2006 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at San Jose State University, San Jose, California. She is a career Intelligence Officer with assignments at all three levels of warfare and multiple combat deployments including the following contingency operations: Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, ODYSSEY DAWN, and FREEDOM SENTINEL.

Capt Bullock

Capt Austin S. Bullock

Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies

Captain Austin Bullock serves as the Operations Flight Commander, Detachment 045, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Air Education and Training Command, San Jose State University, California. He leads, recruits, trains, counsels, and evaluates highly qualified young men and women as prospective DAF officers. He directs and supervises Leadership Laboratory (LLAB) and instructs college curriculum covering Foundations of the USAF, AF History, Leadership & National Security Affairs.

Captain Bullock entered the Air Force in June 2018 through ROTC from California State University San Bernardino. He completed the Nuclear Munitions Officer's Course in January 2019 and since then has held a variety of maintenance positions supporting weapon sustainment in both the nuclear and conventional enterprises. In October 2020, he was selected to Joint Task Force – National Capital Region as an Aide-de Camp in support of the 59th Presidential Inauguration. Prior to his current position, he was the Director of Operations, 705th Munitions Squadron, Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota. There he was responsible for maintenance and contingency operations for Minot’s Protection Level-1 Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) and intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) stockpiles.

Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies

Captain Benjamin L. Goirigolzarri serves as Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies, Detachment 045, Air Force Reserve Training Corps, Air Education and Training Command, San Jose State University, California. AFROTC Detachment 045 serves to develop leaders of tomorrow who will go on to fulfill the Air Force mission to fly, fight, and win, represent our core values of Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do, and live up to the rich history of Air Force ROTC.

Captain Goirigolzarri commissioned into the Air Force through the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado in June 2016. Following his commission, he obtained his PhD in Policy Analysis from Pardee RAND Graduate School, Santa Monica, California. Upon commissioning, he was stationed at Space Systems Command, Los Angeles AFB, California, where he served as the Functional Security Engineering Team (FSET) Lead and Program Manager for the Military GPS User Equipment (MGUE) program. Prior to his current position, the Captain was the Commander’s Speechwriter, Space Systems Command, Los Angeles AFB, Los Angeles California.
