Grant
The CS Department received an Implementation Grant from the Center of Inclusive Computing, in the amount of $800,000 for two years (2021/10/1 - 2023/9/30), to improve the diversity of students in undergraduate programs in computing.
Academic Advisor for Inclusive Computing and Student Success
With the grant the department's goal is to be able to increase the number of students that identify as women and come from underrepresented groups in the computing field. In order to do this the department has hired a full time academic advisor to help retain the numbers of underrepresented students and help them during their education path.
Events
The academic advisor for Inclusive Computing and Student Success Partnerships with clubs on campus to create events for students to attend. The goals of the events are to intrigue students into Data Science and Computer Science as well as for students to find communities with other students that share similar interests. Events that have been held are club days, and frontend workshops, with many more to come.
CS 22A Python for Everyone
Our Data Science curriculum starts with CS 22A-Python for Everyone. This course is an introduction to Python programming in interesting, relevant, and practical contexts for data science. Course is intended for students who have no prior programming experience.
