Don Reed
I teach courses in oceanography, tectonics, geophysics, and marine geology. My research
interests focused on the geophysical imaging of convergent plate boundaries in Indonesia,
Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, and Central America. I developed and offered the first fully
online course at SJSU in the fall of 1998, and pioneered the use of virtual research
experiences in undergraduate education. I served as the Faculty-in-Residence in Technology
with the SJSU Center for Faculty Development for many years in the early 2000’s and
was a member of the NSF-MARGINS Steering Committee. I served as a faculty mentor in
the SJSU 2020 Summer Online Teaching Workshops and was the recipient of the 2020 College
of Science Innovation in Teaching Award in 2020. I am currently participating in the
SJSU Faculty Early Retirement Program and therefore only teaching in the fall semester
through 2023. In my free time, I enjoy riding road bikes and mountain bikes on Mount
Tamalpais and along the coast in Marin, watching youth sports, and spending time with
my family.
Dr. Reed is participating in the faculty early retirement program and is no longer
accepting graduate students.
