Sunstone CSU Startup Launch Competition 2024

At the 2024 Sunstone CSU Launch Competition held in Long Beach, California, two teams from San José State University earned top honors and significant prize money against competitors from all 23 California State University campuses.

Concussion Coach, a student team that developed an adaptive impact-mapping device designed to help prevent secondary head injuries, captured the grand prize at the event. In addition to winning first place overall, the team also placed second in both the Value Proposition and Market Validation categories, bringing home a total of $41,000 in awards.

Project Firewatch also performed exceptionally well. This team developed a drone system that uses wildfire trajectory software to track and share information about fire movement. Their project earned them placement among the Top 8 finalists as well as second-place prizes in both the Competitive Edge and Team Capability categories, with winnings totaling $11,000.

Together, the Concussion Coach and Project Firewatch teams brought home a combined $52,000 in prize money for San José State University, underscoring the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of SJSU’s student body.
