MPA Program

Upon completion of the Master of Public Administration degree, the student will be able to:

  1. Lead and manage in public governance
    a. Apply public management models to lead public and non-profit organizations
    b. Effectively Collaborate to develop and manage projects with colleagues
    c. Demonstrate an understanding of the role of leadership and management in policy development and implementation
  2. Participate in and contribute to the public policy process
    a. Identify appropriate research and analytic techniques to conduct evidence-based assessments of a policy problem
    b. Describe and execute the policy analysis process, including defining the problem, formulate policy and evaluate policy
    c. Prepare a budget reflecting policy priorities
  3. Analyze, synthesize, think critically, solve problems and make decisions
    a. Employ research tools and techniques to collect, interpret, and present data to analyze and/or evaluate public policies, programs, and management issues
    b. Identify and employ alternative sources of funding, including grants, taxes and fees to make budgetary decisions
    c. Understand the legal context of public affairs, administration and policy
  4. Articulate and apply a public service perspective
    a. Demonstrate the use of public service ethics and values to decision-making for public management and policy implementation
    b. Understand ethical dilemmas facing government and/or non-profit non-government organizations to address social problems and real-world challenges
  5. Communicate and interact productively with a diverse and changing workforce and citizenry
    a. Prepare clear, concise and well-organized written materials about public policy and management issues tailored to the audience's level of expertise and needs
    b. Provide oral presentations on public policy and management issues accurately, clearly, concisely, and persuasively tailored to the audience's level of expertise and needs
    c. Work productively in teams
