Bio

Junaid Anwar joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at San José State University as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in July 2025. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (with a specialization in control systems) from Tennessee Technological University, USA. He also holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan (2016), and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Taxila, Pakistan (2012).

Dr. Anwar’s research focuses on control theory, reinforcement learning, optimization, cyber-physical systems, and autonomous systems, including robotics and intelligent energy systems. His work emphasizes the design of distributed multi-agent learning and control algorithms, with applications ranging from large-scale HVAC optimization to swarm robotics for search and rescue missions. He also conducted robotics research in Denmark, where he worked on multi-agent control strategies for autonomous aerial vehicles. His research has been published in leading control journals and presented at major international conferences.

In addition to his academic work, Dr. Anwar brings nearly a decade of industrial experience in control systems, automation, and energy technologies. He has led projects involving robotic platforms, power electronics, and embedded control. He is a recipient of multiple academic awards and actively contributes to STEM outreach activities, including robotics-based learning events for school students.

He is a member of IEEE and serves as a reviewer for several IEEE and IFAC journals and conferences in control and systems engineering.
