Financial Aid
Our department offers all Philosophy M.A. students the opportunity to work as Instructional Student Assistants from their first semester onward. We guarantee 50 hours of work per semester at a rate of 19 USD per hour, but more work is usually available. In addition, the department frequently employs M.A. students as Teaching Associates who co-teach lower-division philosophy courses on their own. M.A. students who work as Teaching Associates are offered a full tuition remission for the semester in which they teach. Most of our students also qualify for financial aid at the university level.
Prizes and Scholarships
M.A. students are eligible for several departmental prizes and scholarships.
In addition, new applicants to the M.A. program are eligible for the Lucius R. Eastman Memorial Endowed Scholarship, created by Alan E. Kazdin, a graduate of SJSU, to honor the memory of Dr. Lucius R. Eastman. Recipients will be selected based on the quality and persuasiveness of (1) their personal statement and (2) the writing sample submitted as part of the application to the M.A. program.
