Vice President for Administration and Finance/CFO Open Forum

We have two candidates for for the position of SJSU Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF) and Chief Finance Officer (CFO).

• Position Description Summary

  • The Vice President (VP) for Administration and Finance and Chief Finance Officer (CFO) is a cabinet level strategic executive leader who reports directly to the President of the University and provides executive leadership and vision to the Cabinet regarding operational functions of the university.  As CFO, the position also provides overall management for financial strategic planning and direct supervision of the financial and administrative/business functions which include Finance and Business Services, University Personnel, Facilities Development & Operations, Internal Control, University Police, the Office of Sustainability, and Clery and DFSCA Compliance.  The CFO participates in all aspects of institutional leadership and planning in support of the mission and goals of the university and has financial oversight responsibility for all auxiliary organizations and direct management oversight for Spartan Shop, Inc.

  • As Vice President of Finance, Mortensen oversees the university’s budget, PBA process, procurement, accounting, and asset management. In addition, he will have oversight for UVU’s executive and continuing education programs. In nearly 30 years of management consulting, Mortensen has specialized in helping organizations reposition themselves to successfully thrive in today’s market. His consulting engagements include Fortune 500 and national ministry-level clients, where he has worked on human capital, national preparedness, and international business issues. Since 2013, Mortensen has also been a member of the Woodbury School of Business MBA Program, teaching courses in strategy and consulting. He was also instrumental in creating a partnership with Silicon Slopes. Mortensen holds a Master of Public Administration from BYU, a Master of Science in human development from Virginia Tech, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from BYU.

  • Kathryn “Kathy” Kaoudis is the Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. A dynamic, collaborative, and transparent leader, Kathy is deeply committed to student success. She is a Certified Public Accountant (licensed in Colorado and Virginia) and an attorney (licensed in Colorado), with nearly two decades of experience in higher education finance and accounting, and ten years of experience teaching accounting and business law as an adjunct instructor.

    Prior to UCCS, Kathy served as Vice President for Administrative Services and CFO at Community College of Denver, where she led initiatives that increased reserves by nearly 80%, secured the college’s first-ever $34M state capital construction award, and obtained $5M in classroom technology funding. She oversaw multiple departments including budget, emergency preparedness, IT, procurement, and financial services.

    Kathy is nationally and internationally recognized for her expertise in federal grant management and ERP implementation and was named one of the top four Business Officers by the Community College Business Officers Association. She holds a BS in Accounting from Old Dominion University and both a JD and LL.M. in International Business Transactions from the University of Denver. The first woman in her family to earn a college degree, Kathy also serves on the national board of the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation and advises on anti-human trafficking grant compliance. She enjoys hiking, skiing, and traveling with her husband and two Labradoodles.
