How To Apply
SCILL Applicants must:
- Apply to graduate studies at San Jose State University through Cal State Apply.
- In Cal State Apply, choose the SJSU Biology Department Master degree MS in Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Stem Cell Biology.
- Complete SCILL interest form for SCILL information updates.
- The following are also required:
- Two completed recommendation forms or letters.
- Personal Statement: Your personal statement should be approximately 500 words in length and address the following: why you want a master's degree in Stem Cell Biology, what your career goal is and how a master's degree from SJSU will help you achieve your goal, and your research or academic background that has prepared you to be successful in a master's program. Additionally, please describe your interest in stem cell biology and how the SCILL program will help you achieve your career goals.
- CV/Curriculum Vitae or Resume. Please include your education, research experience and publications if applicable, awards, and any relevant professional experience.
- GRE scores (GRE is currently being waived)
- TOEFL/IELTS or Duolingo – if applicable
- Transcripts from all universities- can be unofficial
These documents will be retrieved from your CSU application once you are accepted to the university.
Due Dates
Please note that you must apply to the university in order to be considered for admission to the SCILL program. Please make sure you submit your application to Cal State Apply before the March 1st deadline. Applications may be submitted anytime before March 1st and will be reviewed in the order they are received. Priority will be given to early applicants. Interviews will be scheduled in February-March. Admission offers will be made as we go until all positions are filled. Final decisions for each SCILL cohort will be made by May 1st.

Selection Process
Ten graduate students will be selected each year from among applicants to the MS in Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Stem Cell Biology. Graduate applicants to other Sciences will be considered as well.
Trainee Selection Timeline
Application screening: January-April
New Student Orientation
Students will attend an orientation conducted by the SJSU SCILL program staff. Students will obtain further clarification on the program, receive academic advising and information on class schedules, and interact with their cohort.
