Welcome to the Sociology program at SJSU!

Sociology at SJSU has a tradition of inspiring and training students to understand, navigate, and enact positive social change. We offer strong theoretical, methodological, and substantive preparation in an environment where students learn by applying theory to analyze social issues through interactive discussions, research projects, and collaborative knowledge creation. We offer a diverse curriculum that enhances any employment or entrepreneurial goal. Graduates from our program have gone on to have successful careers in business, public service, social work, law enforcement, education, research, and tech. Our faculty come from diverse educational and geographic backgrounds with a commitment to equitable and just pedagogy and an eye toward solutions for social problems.

About the Sociology Major

The BA in Sociology consists of 42 units worth of core and elective class aimed at preparing students to observe the world from a sociological perspective. In our program you will develop the knowledge to collect and analyze information and construct evidence based arguments while diving into topics that drive contemporary society..
