Fieldwork
Education Specialist Credential candidates will complete fieldwork in their last two semesters in the program. For students adhering to the 3 semester roadmap, Early Fieldwork takes place in Semester 2 and Advanced Fieldwork takes place in Semester 3. Students who modify their roadmap or opt for a part-time will have their fieldwork delayed. Fieldwork is always taken in the last two semesters of the program.
Fieldwork can be completed as part of the Teacher Residency Program (requires a summer start), as a traditional student teacher, or as an Intern working as the teacher of record. Candidates should attend the fieldwork information session in the semester prior to entering Early Fieldwork to select their pathway and learn more about the program. Candidates are also encouraged to read the Fieldwork Handbook.

Teaching Performance Assessment
All Education Specialist Credential candidates must pass the Education Specialist California Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) in order to be recommended for the Preliminary Credential. The TPA is comprised of two components:
1) Math Performance Assessment - completed in Early Fieldwork
2) Literacy Performance Assessment - completed in Advanced Fieldwork
For more information about the TPA Policies, including the score verification policy, the remediation policy, and appropriate use of TPA materials please review the documents below. All candidates will be required to sign the Appropriate Use of TPA Materials document and submit to CANVAS in their fieldwork courses.
