Celebration Events

Individual departments, supportive programs, affinity groups and centers may host "graduation" celebration events outside the main college Commencement ceremonies schedule. These events do not include any awarding of degrees or related rituals that traditionally take place at the official Commencement ceremonies, but are an additional opportunity for graduating students and their guests and loved ones to celebrate academic, cultural and social achievement.

While these events are not required nor part of formal Commencement, San José State University supports these events and celebrates individual achievements. Participation in these events are open to students of all backgrounds, in alignment with SJSU's Statement of Nondiscrimination.

Statement of Nondiscrimination

The university is dedicated to the principles of equal opportunity and non-discrimination. These principles permeate all facets of university life: in the admission, housing and education of students; in policies and practices governing programs of extracurricular life and activities; and in the employment of faculty, staff, and students. This is not a comprehensive list, so please contact your department, student organization or college directly if you do not see an event listed below. The list will be updated as information is available.

These ceremonies may conflict with an individual student's Final Examinations and Culminating Activities. Participation in these celebration events are optional and not required for graduation from the university or participation in Commencement, which happens after finals. All departments, programs, affinity groups and centers strongly advise that students prioritize their academic obligations.
