Guardian Scholars
Guardian Scholars at San José State University is committed to supporting students who have experienced Foster Care and students who are determined Independent through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. We provide a network of integrated support and resources that focus on academic, career, and lifelong personal development.
Our vision is that every Guardian Scholar will identify, access, and utilize the support and resources needed to achieve their desired level of personal and academic success.

GSP Participant Eligibility
To be eligible for the Guardian Scholars Program, you must be:
- A student who is admitted to SJSU
- Enrolled at least part-time (6 units) at SJSU
- A current or former youth who experienced Foster Care or identify as
- Dependent/Ward of the Court
- Under Legal Guardianship
- AB12 Eligible
- Independent Student Status as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
- GSP applicants must have a complete application that includes
a dependency or ward of the court letter to verify that you were in care

SJSU Foster Youth Resources
Sign up for the Foster Youth Resources email, which provides information and resources focused on supporting students who identify as a current or former foster youth.
The SJSU Foster Youth Resources email list is intended for SJSU students who identify as current or former foster youth and are NOT in the Guardian Scholars Program.
