Professional Staff Positions

UHS is currently recruiting for the following professional staff positions:

Interested in Becoming a UHS Student leader?

Our student leaders make an impact, build professional skills, and create community; all while helping fellow Spartans thrive. We hire for a range of roles that support our residents in different ways. Some live on the floor alongside the students they serve. Some coach residents toward their academic goals. Some keep our community desks and offices running. All of them shape what it feels like to live on campus.

Available Positions

Resident Advisor (RA)

RAs live in the residence halls and are the student leaders closest to the residents in their community. Through one-on-one conversations, community rounds, and floor meetings, RAs build relationships, mediate roommate conflicts, plan programs, connect residents to academic and campus resources, and respond to incidents and emergencies as part of an on-call rotation.

Theme Community Resident Advisor (TCRA)

TCRAs do everything an RA does, with an added focus on one of our themed living-learning communities: Arts Village, Black Scholars, BUILD, CELL, Rainbow Village, Sustainable Spartans, and International House. TCRAs partner with the faculty, campus centers, and student organizations connected to their community's theme, and plan collaborative programs with those partners.

Peer Academic Success Coach (PASC)

PASCs help residents set and reach their academic goals. They meet one-on-one with students to build academic success action plans, help residents develop study strategies and confidence, facilitate workshops, and connect students to the Undergraduate Advising and Success Center, the Career Center, and Peer Connections. PASCs work alongside our Faculty-in-Residence and Academic Initiatives team.

Student Administrative Assistant (SAA)

SAAs support the Residential Life team with the administrative work that keeps our communities running. Depending on where you are placed, that can mean managing community email and engagement platforms, creating flyers and signage, coordinating schedules, running key audits, supporting check-in and check-out, helping with Move-In, Move-Out, and Admitted Spartan Day, and assisting with data and reporting.

Community Desk Assistant (CDA/ECDA)

CDAs/ECDAs staff the front desk of a residential community and are often the first person a resident or guest talks to. They answer questions, provide lockout support, check guests in and out, manage the checkout and return of community resources, and help keep the building safe and welcoming.

International House Office Aide (IHOA)

Office Aides support the front office of the International House, our living community for domestic and international students. They greet visitors, answer the door, sort mail, provide lockout support, keep the desk and storage areas organized, and help with day-to-day office operations and I-House programs. To be eligible for this position, candidates must reside in the International House.

Conference Assistant (CA)

Support SJSU's summer camps, orientation, conferences, and guest housing program! Assist with guest services, check-ins and check-outs, housing operations, and event support while gaining valuable experience in hospitality, customer service, leadership, and teamwork. Work with diverse groups of guests and help create a memorable summer experience at SJSU. Please check back in February 2027 for details about the Summer 2027 application process and timeline.
