Bio

Ernie Gonzalez, born in Inglewood and raised in Los Angeles, Calif., began his academic journey at San Jose State studying electrical engineering before discovering his passion for journalism — leading to a change of major. He was a key member of the inaugural Spear cohort in 2016, contributing to SJSU's student-run sports media publication in various leadership roles, including executive editor, managing editor and senior video editor. After earning his B.S. in Journalism in 2020, Ernie pursued an M.S. in Mass Communications, graduating in May 2023 while serving as the department's administrative support coordinator. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoys attending sporting events, juicing, running, learning and questioning AP style, and creating content using Adobe Creative Cloud.
