Biography

Kelsey Kraus received her Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2018, where she worked on the semantics and pragmatics of intonation and discourse particles in English and German. She joined SJSU in 2026 after working in Silicon Valley as a Linguist and Senior Data Scientist. She is interested in code switching, the pragmatic interpretations of prosodic tunes and discourse particles, and computational approaches to language that center a human perspective, such as human-aligned rating methodologies for subjective LLM evaluation.
