Dr. Vimal Viswanathan is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering, currently serving as the Department Chair. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, India. He graduated with MSME and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering (with a focus on product design) from Texas A&M University. His research interests include product design, new product development, design creativity, design automation, additive manufacturing, mechanical systems design, and engineering education. He has published over 50 refereed articles to date. He was also previously awarded four federal grants related to engineering education.
Purpose Statement
The MSPC provides students with equipment and tools to enable them to fabricate physical artifacts in a safe manner during their program of study in the department. Here, students have to the opportunity to put into practice invaluable skills in design and manufacturing that provide them with a foundation of knowledge and experience to prepare them for their future careers.

Our student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) hosted an exhibition this in April 2023 to highlight their most recent Human Powered Vehicle design.
