Declaring or Changing Your Major/Minor to Psychology:
Please WATCH the following video BEFORE contacting an advisor. The video describes the process involved in declaring or changing your major or minor to Psychology.
NOTE: Change of MAJOR discussion starts from beginning and ends at approximately 12:45 in the video. Addition of MINOR discussion begins at approximately 12:48 until the end.

- Review the Psychology BA requirements [pdf]
- Run a “What if” degree progress report from your Academics page on MySJSU (see video for instructions)
- UPDATE: To access the "What if" report, go to your Academics page on MySJSU. Click
on the 3 DOTS at the top right hand corner of the box. From drop-down menu, click on "What-if Report"; on next page, click on "Create New Report". Follow instructions in video.

- Complete COURSE REQUIREMENTS (based on units earned)
- If LESS THAN 70 UNITS earned – complete 6 UNITS (2 classes) of coursework in the Psychology major AT SJSU (can include Bio 21/65 & Stat 095)
- If 70 OR MORE UNITS earned – complete 12 UNITS (4 classes) of coursework in the Psychology major, with 6 units (2 classes) completed AT SJSU
- NOTE: Students with 90 units or greater should meet with a Psychology advisor for guidance. Change of major must be reviewed
and approved by the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Student Success. If a
major change delays graduation, it is unlikely to be approved.
- Meet GPA requirement of 2.75 or higher in coursework required to declare/change major to Psychology
- Must NOT be on Academic Notice
- AFTER ALL COURSE REQUIREMENTS ARE COMPLETED (& GPA requirement is met), meet with a Psychology major advisor to request an official change of major to Psychology.
