Admissions Process Explained

Are you preparing to apply to SJSU for Fall 2025 admission? Review the process below!

  1. Meet with your high school counselor to verify you are on track to complete your A-G requirements by your high school graduation. 10th -11th grade A-G high school course work must also have a minimum 2.5 GPA for CSU eligibility.
Note: Coursework completed in Summer 2025 cannot be used to meet Fall 2025 admission requirements. After students have graduated, their final transcript is evaluated to verify 10th - 12th grade A-G coursework meets the minimum SJSU admission requirements.

  2. Attend an SJSU admissions/application workshop to learn how to apply, and ask question answered by an SJSU admissions counselor.

  3. Apply for Fall 2025 admission at calstate.edu/apply between October 1 - December 2, 2024. Be sure to review the application guide before starting your application.
Note: When creating your account, be sure to use your own personal email address (ex: gmail, yahoo, etc. not a schoolbased email), as email is our main mode of communication during the application process.

  4. 1-2 weeks after submitting your application, keep an eye out for an email (check your spam folder) that states "Activate your MySJSU Account." This email will include your SJSU ID number. It is your responsibility to activate and frequently check your MySJSU account for any deadline oriented messages or To Do List items. There are no extension or exceptions for missed deadlines.

  5. Applicants are reviewed for provisional admission through SJSU's admission selection process, called impaction. Students must meet the eligibility index (EI) score for the major they applied to in order to be offered provisional admission. If an eligible student does not meet the EI for their intended major, the Spartan East Side Promise guarantees an offer of provisional admission to Undeclared for qualified ESUHSD applicants with a 2.75 GPA or higher ONLY IF:
     - The eligibility index score for their applied major is not met,
     - A-G courses are completed with a C- or better, AND
     - All deadlines are met
Note: The 2.75 GPA is calculated using only 10th - 11th grade A-G high school courses to determine eligibility for provisional admission. Review our impaction page for more information on the eligibility index score formula, and our local preference for Santa Clara County high school graduates.

  6. While messages can be sent at anytime during the admissions process, be sure to check your MySJSU account especially January - March, as students will receive with withdrawal, appeal, and/or provisional admission notices (late Feb/early March) during this time.

If your application is withdrawn, read your MySJSU message throughoughly for instructions and deadlines on how to appeal

If offered provisional admission, congratulations! Continue to check your MySJSU account for a message regarding the Intent to Enroll process which must be completed by the posted deadline to retain your provisional admission offer. Note: Students must complete admission requirements by their high school graduation, and will be verifed with an evaluation of their final transcripts.

  7. Students will also have until May 31st to register for the optional ESUHSD Spartan Summer Program, designed by our program in partnership with the ESUHSD District and the East Side Education Foundation. This program typically is offered in June prior to incoming students' mandatory Sparta Camp Orientation. Students must attend Orientation to retain their provisional admission offer and register for courses.

  8. Further steps are outlined on our "Been Admitted" page. We also will host "Next Steps" workshops March - April for students offered admission. Check out our page in the Spring!
