Training and Workforce Development Programs
SJSU School of Social Work offers multiple workforce development and training programs that enhance our students’ social work skills and professional development. Each program is unique and has its own set of course and internship requirements, expectations and obligations. Any student considering applying to one of these training programs should plan to attend an information session about that program and review all information about the program's purpose, focus, requirements and post-graduation service expectations before applying. After reviewing all program materials, students may reach out to the training program in question with any additional questions to ensure an accurate understanding of program requirements and expectations.
For all workforce development and training programs through which students receive stipend funding, students should inform and consult with the SJSU financial aid office about the potential impact of stipend funding on financial aid awards. Upon graduation, students are independently responsible for fulfilling all post-graduation service employment obligations.
Although students may apply to more than one training program, SJSU will only allow MSW students to participate in ONE of these training and workforce development programs during each academic year.
Title IV-E Child Welfare program
The Title IV-E Child Welfare program at SJSU provides a training and workforce development program to eligible MSW students who agree to work full time after graduation in county public child welfare services for a specified period of time. There are different versions of the program available for 2-Year Full-Time On-Campus, 3-Year Part-Time On-Campus, and Online/Hybrid students. Program details and application information available on the Title IV-E program website.
Public Behavioral Health MSW Training Program
The Public Behavioral Health (PBH) MSW Training Program is a competitive training and workforce development program available to MSW students with a passion for social work in public behavioral health settings.
Students who are accepted into the program receive enhanced training (including a $25,000 stipend per year for full-time students) and commit to a post-graduation service obligation. Students apply and interview during the spring semester and participate in the program during the following academic year. 2-Year Full-Time On-Campus, 3-Year Part-Time On-Campus, Online/Hybrid, and Advanced Standing students are all eligible to apply.
For general information, students are invited to review this PowerPoint.
[As a reminder, students who successfully petition to do their internship at their worksite are not eligible to participate in the PBH program during that academic year. Also, MSW students may only participate in one workforce development program (e.g., APS, PBH, Title IV-E, PPSC) administered through the School of Social Work during any particular academic year. Also, students who are participating in other HCAI-funded scholarships or programs, including the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Internship program, cannot participate in this program during the same year.]
