Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
What is the TEAS?
The TEAS is required for nursing school admissions nationwide. Our test center is open to all nursing applicants, including those applying to SJSU.
SJSU currently offers the TEAS 7. The ATI TEAS exam is comprised of 170 total questions, with 209 minutes allocated for testing time. Question types include multiple choice, multiple select (select all that apply), fill in the blank, ordered response, and hot spots.

Who Needs to Take the TEAS?
All SJSU nursing applicants are required to complete the TEAS exam before applying.
How do I Register for the TEAS?
- Create an account on the ATI website and obtain an ATI ID before you register for the test
- Register to take the TEAS at SJSU
- You will receive your reporting time, room assignment, and instructions via email from us 3-5 days before the test

Fees
A testing fee of $120 is assessed for each testing attempt and is due upon scheduling. We accept credit or debit cards only.
Special Circumstances
I usually test with accommodations.
If you receive accommodations, register for the test first and then contact the SJSU Accessible Education Center (AEC) to arrange accommodations at least one month before your exam. Students must email the office two weeks before the test date to check on their accommodations.
I need to reschedule my TEAS.
Email us before the test registration deadline. Include your SJSU ID number and the transaction number on your TEAS receipt. After registration closes, we can reschedule your test date if it is due to an emergency, if you provide documentation to support your request (legal, medical, etc). We reserve the right to approve/deny all requests. Tests may be rescheduled one time with the appropriate documentation.
Frequently Asked Questions
I am not a Nursing student. Do I need to take the TEAS?
No. Only nursing applicants need to take the TEAS.
I am applying to other nursing programs, not SJSU. Can I still test at SJSU?
Yes. We administer the test for students applying to any nursing program.
What is an ATI ID?
This is a unique registration number, assigned by ATI for each candidate taking the TEAS, used by you and your nursing program to access your test score(s).
You will need the ATI ID number on the day of the test to be allowed to test.
I did not receive an admission email with my TEAS test time.
Admission emails are sent out via email 3-5 days before the test date. Be sure to check your spam/junk folder. If you do not receive an email by the day before your exam, email us before 5 pm. We will need your ATI number and your test registration receipt to look up your information.
