What is UROP

The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) is an initiative that was developed and launched on campus in Fall 2021 as a retention model to keep underrepresented students engaged in university life by supporting them in research, scholarship, and creative activity early in their academic journey. The program incorporates a cohort model where students receive multi-level support via dedicated peer and faculty mentorship, a two-semester, 4-unit curriculum, and opportunities to engage in several professional development and enrichment activities throughout the academic year. UROP promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and dialogue across campus and helps expand SJSU’s diverse and exciting research culture. Graduates from the program have gone on to engage in further research endeavors to become McNair Scholars, enroll in study abroad programs and graduate school, participate in CSU-wide research competitions, among other accolades.
