Meet SJSU's Accreditation Team

At San José State University, accreditation is a shared responsibility that reflects our collective commitment to academic excellence, accountability, and student success. Our work with the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) engages faculty, staff, students, and administrators in continuous reflection and improvement.

Accreditation Review Committee (ARC)

The Accreditation Review Committee (ARC), established by the Academic Senate under University Policy S16-5 [pdf], brings together representatives from across the university to guide campus-wide accreditation activities.

ARC leads campus engagement in accreditation, reviews WSCUC feedback, and helps SJSU prepare for institutional reviews and reaffirmation. Current members of ARC can be found at the Academic Senate Committee website. ARC is chaired by the Director of Academic and Institutional Effectiveness.

Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO)

The Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) serves as SJSU’s official representative to WSCUC and ensures that all accreditation activities meet Commission expectations. The ALO coordinates institutional reports, facilitates campus communication, and leads preparations for the 2027 WSCUC reaffirmation review.

SJSU’s current ALO is Dr. Magdalena Barrera, Vice Provost for Faculty Success.

Director of Academic and Institutional Effectiveness

The Director of Academic and Institutional Effectiveness provides campus leadership for accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement. This role ensures that SJSU’s accreditation work is aligned with strategic priorities, student learning, and institutional goals.

The Director also serves as a key partner to ARC and the ALO in preparing evidence, organizing reviews, and supporting faculty engagement in institutional effectiveness.

Dr. Priya Raman, Professor of Communication Studies, serves as Director of Academic and Institutional Effectiveness.

Support Staff

Our accreditation efforts are supported by a dedicated team in Institutional Effectiveness:

  • Eva Chávez, Institutional Effectiveness Analyst, manages data, analysis, and reporting to support accreditation and program review.
  • Huyen Pham, Academic & Institutional Effectiveness Coordinator, facilitates logistics, communications, and documentation for accreditation and assessment activities.

Together, this team ensures that SJSU’s accreditation process is collaborative, evidence-based, and transparent.
