Gisele Bousquet is a social and cultural anthropologist whose work is on the urbanization in Vietnam and the Vietnamese diaspora in Europe and the United States. She received her Ph.D. in Anthropology at UC Berkeley and holds a Master's in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley. Her current research focuses on the emergence of new urban neighborhoods in Hanoi and how social and cultural spaces are contested and negotiated. Her publications include two ethnographies: Urbanization in Vietnam (2015), and Behind the Bamboo Hedge: The Impact of Homeland Politics in the Parisian Vietnamese Community (1991), and two co edited volumes: Le Vietnam au Feminin/ Việt Nam: Women’s Realities, with Nora Taylor (2005) and Viêt Nam Exposé: French Scholarship on Twenty Century Vietnamese Society, with Pierre Brocheux (2002).
