Computer Engineering (CmpE) is one of the largest departments in the College of Engineering
at San Jose State University and one of the leading suppliers of engineers to Silicon
Valley. The department supports two sets of programs - Computer Engineering and Software
Engineering.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering (CMPE), offered by the Department
of Computer Engineering, goes beyond programming to include engineering methodologies
and hands-on project experience. The program prepares students to become qualified
engineers for IT leading companies in Silicon Valley and international engineering
market by providing them with state-of-the-art engineering methods, emergent technologies,
team work experience, and solutions so they are capable to address design, coding,
validation, and measurement issues for the construction of large-scale computer systems
and software applications in the real world.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering (BSSE), offered by the Department
of Computer Engineering, goes beyond programming to include engineering methodologies
and hands-on project experience.
The MS-CMPE program provides students with an educational experience that combines
electrical engineering and computer science with the best of academia, the high-tech
industry, and Silicon Valley. The high-tech industry increasingly requires engineers
to be equipped with both hardware and software development knowledge and skills. The
program provides in-class theory with hands-on hardware design and software development
exercises to give students the skills necessary to create contemporary microelectronic
products that are typically embedded computing systems containing both hardware and
software.
The MSSE program, offered by the Department of Computer Engineering, provides students
with an educational experience that builds on traditional computer science and engineering
and takes an integrative approach to software engineering. The program offers specializations
in Enterprise Software Technologies, Cloud Computing and Virtualization, Software
Systems Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity and Networking Software.
MS in Artificial Intelligence program provides students with a state-of-the-art educational
experience to become outstanding, socially responsible engineers of AI systems. Students
will learn the theoretical foundations and gain practical skills to manage and engineer
various data forms, to make predictive analyses, to derive actionable insights, and
develop intelligent hardware and software systems and related cutting-edge AI technologies.
The Computer Engineering program offers an 18-unit certificate program to students
seeking career opportunities in cyber security. The program aligns with the nationally
defined knowledge areas and prepares the students with well-grounded fundamentals
to become a professional in cyber security. Please note that this certificate program
is for only SJSU undergraduate students only.
