Fall 2025 GE Breadth Requirements

CSU General Education requirements will change in Fall 2025 to conform to California Assembly Bill 928, the Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act, now known as Cal-GETC: California General Education Transfer Curriculum

Starting in Fall 2025, Cal-GETC will be the only GE transfer pattern offered by California Community Colleges. These revised requirements aim to create a more equitable experience for all CSU students.

SJSU GE Guidelines - Fall 2025

Our SJSU General Education policy [pdf] and GE Guidelines [pdf] have been updated to reflect the new CSU GE Breadth Requirements. These new guidelines will be in effect starting Fall 2025.

GE Catalog Rights for students

First time first-year CSU students starting in Fall 2025 or later will be required to complete the new CSU GE Breadth Requirements.

Most transfer students entering SJSU in Fall 2025 or later will be placed into the new CSU GE Breadth Requirements. Exceptions include incoming transfer students who have completed all lower-division GE requirements prior to matriculation at SJSU. Students who have completed all Core (lower-division) GE or an Associates Degree for Transfer (ADT) will NOT be placed into the new CSU GE Breadth Requirements, and will NOT be required to complete any additional Core GE coursework.

Transfer students beginning their studies at SJSU in Fall 2025 or later who 1) have not completed Core GE requirements but 2) have maintained continuous enrollment at a California Community College or CSU campus are entitled to request a return to the catalog rights in place during their first term of enrollment. Continuous enrollment is defined as being enrolled for at least one semester or quarter (not including winter or summer sessions) each calendar year since a student began their college studies after graduating from high school. Students seeking a GE Catalog Rights year change should contact their college advising Student Success Center to make this request, which will be routinely approved.
