Bands
the Wind Ensemble is comprised of the finest woodwind, brass, and percussion students in the School of Music.
The Honors Wind Ensemble is created through director/studio teacher recommendations. After reviewing nominations, the selected students will attend a full rehearsal day, which includes ensemble seating auditions, followed by a dress rehearsal and concert two weeks later.
The Symphonic Band performs a wide variety of literature, including the masterworks for band, and contemporary wind literature. Under the direction of Dr. David Vickerman and Craig McKenzie, the philosophy of the Symphonic Band is to encourage musical growth in all students through careful selection of appropriate repertoire.
The members of the Spartan Marching Band are students from every field of study on campus, from first year undergraduate through graduate students, including several "open university" members.
Choral / Vocal
The SJSU Concert Choir is the large, auditioned choir comprised of some of the finest singers at San José State University.
The SJSU Choraliers is the most advanced chamber ensemble at the university and is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students. Membership is open to all SJSU students through a rigorous audition process.
The Treble Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble comprised of undergraduate and graduate soprano / alto students. Membership is open to all SJSU students, regardless of major.
The Opera Theater program provides training in performance and interpretation techniques, stage movement, and other related subjects necessary for a career in performance or teaching. A fully staged opera with orchestra is performed each spring semester in the Hammer Theater.
Spartan Glee Club is a non-auditioned ensemble comprised of undergraduate and graduate tenors / basses students. Membership is open to all SJSU students, regardless of major.
The Vocal Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned jazz choir comprised of undergraduate and graduate students. Membership is open to all SJSU students, regardless of major.
