Master of Science, Family Nurse Practitioner Admissions
Eligibility:
- Applicant has current, unrestricted California Registered Nursing (RN) license
- Applicant has 1-2 years of prior nursing experience at the time of application
- Applicant has a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BSN)
Prerequisites
A grade point average of 3.0 (B) is required in the last 60 units of the undergraduate program coursework. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 will be evaluated on an individual basis and may be admitted with a conditional status.
Potential applicants need to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Competency in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Nursing Essentials for baccalaureate nursing
- Introductory research course, or the equivalent, that has prepared the applicant to critique the usefulness of specific research with regard to nursing practice
- Advanced writing skills

Applicants are required to submit the following with the Cal State application:
- Personal Statement covering the following questions:
- What are your goals and passions?
- Why are you applying to the FNP program?
- What knowledge, skills, and/or experience will you bring to the program (i.e. multilingual, specialized experience, etc.)?
- Please create a short 3-5 minute video describing your nursing and any other related experiences. Post the video on YouTube and provide the public link in your application. (You do not need to make your YouTube video searchable, just provide the public link).
- Two letters of reference.
Application Deadline:
OPEN: DEADLINE APRIL 1ST, 2025
Applications for Fall 2025 admission are accepted October 1, 2024 through the deadline of April 1st, 2025.
Timeline of Admissions Notification
Students will be notified of an admission decision four to six weeks after the April 1 deadline.
Once students are formally accepted into the program, additional health documents will be required (titers, background check, drug testing, malpractice insurance) administered through third party document tracker.

Master of Science, Nurse Educator Admissions

- Applicant has at least one (1) year of prior nursing experience is suggested at the time of application
- Applicant has a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BSN) or
- Applicant has a Baccaulaureate degree in another field plus Associate degree in Nursing (ADN)*
*Applicants with baccalaureate degrees in another field plus ADN must complete conditional coursework before starting NE coursework, if admitted.
