Parking and Traffic Updates
Fall 2025 Parking Notice
Avoid main campus parking challenges!
Traffic is heavy and parking is limited during the first few weeks of the fall and spring semesters. Parking will be extremely difficult to find in main campus garages between 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays.
- Get and keep a valid permit at all times. There is no grace period for parking at any university parking garage and permits are enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Check parking garage capacity before driving to campus.
- Take the parking shuttle. Park at the south campus garage located at 1278 South 10th Street (1.5 miles south of main campus) and take the free and frequent shuttle to Duncan Hall. Shuttle service resumes Wednesday, August 20, 2025 through to the end of the semester. South Campus semester virtual parking permits are valid in the general parking areas on main campus during final weeks.
- Use public transit. SJSU, in the heart of downtown, is at the center of Santa Clara County's public transit rail and bus lines. Save money and the environment and avoid sitting in traffic by commuting via Caltrain or BART and then VTA to campus. Students and employees can pick up a Clipper Card (the Bay Area's one transportation fare payment card) for $3 from the Associated Students Transportation Solutions office in the Student Union east wing. Clipper Cards can be loaded with a VTA SmartPass granting free, unlimited rides on VTA (all public transit within Santa Clara County) each semester. The cost, aside from the $3 fee for the card, is free for students and $25 for faculty and all staff. Get all information at go.sjsu.edu/transportation.
- Bike to campus. San José's year-round sunny, warm weather, downtown's flat terrain and protected bicycle lanes make it easy to commute by bike. All students and employees can also access bicycle enclosures through AS Transporation Solutions. Find out more at go.sjsu.edu/transportation.
