About Us:
Pi Sigma Alpha is the National Political Science Honor Society, and is the only honor society for college students of political science and government in the United States. Pi Sigma Alpha is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) and is designated as a “Specialized, Upper-Division” society by ACHS.
Our goal with our local Pi Sigma Alpha Epsilon Iota chapter is to have students expand on their knowledge on political issues and broaden their horizons for connections and education for their future.
As the local Epsilon Iota chapter, we strive to…
❖ Encourage political education and conversation from different perspectives in an
effort to gain insight and understanding.
❖Honor the legacy of our society, emphasizing scholastic excellence.
❖Further our knowledge and understanding of political ideas.
❖Establish meaningful connections with fellow Epsilon Iotas and national members. Connect with local and state government officials and other political actors.
With this in mind, our chapter has decided to take advantage of the upcoming hybrid semesters by focusing on an online-style of educating our members. We plan to host a multitude of events, ranging from hosting debate nights, study sessions, watching political and relevant documentaries, and more.
Though we understand that having an online honor society may be difficult at first, we are committed to offering our members and Iotas a rich experience remotely until it is approved to meet in person once again.

Membership Information:
Pi Sigma Alpha recruits every semester, and to become a full member, the Pi Sigma Alpha National Director will contact you by the 7th week of the semester if you qualify for full membership. These requirements entail: completion of 10 units of Political Science courses, (6) of which must be upper division, and a minimum 3.0 GPA in those Political Science classes. Full membership can only be attained when these units are completed. If these requirements aren't met, we still encourage collegians to participate and express interest in our all-inclusive organization. Collegians who don’t meet the requirements are called “Iotas” until full membership.

What's the difference between a full member and an Iota?
Full members have the ability to serve on the executive board if elected, receive Pi Sigma Alpha memorabilia, become an official Pi Sigma Alpha national and local member, and run for chapter office.
Much like full members, Iotas can still participate in all events hosted by the chapter and vote in elections. The difference lies in that they are exclusively a key part of our local chapter here at SJSU, but not a part of the national organization until they qualify to be a full member. By becoming a full member, Iotas can gain access to more opportunities and advantages by officially joining Pi Sigma Alpha once they are eligible.
When you have completed the 10 required POLS course, (6) of which being upper division, then can you become a full member. Until then, we would love for you to come to events and participate in the organization as a signature chapter Iota.
Does it cost money to be a part of Pi Sigma Alpha?
Normally, yes. We typically charge local chapter dues of $25 annually, but because
of COVID-19, we decided to waive fees for the foreseeable future. However, there is
a one-time full membership fee of $35 that is required to pay to the national organization
if you want to become a full member of Pi Sigma Alpha, and not just an essential part
of our local chapter here at SJSU.
