Bio: Gabriela Quintero-Urquia is a Mexican-American first-generation college student who moved to San José from the small town of Salinas, CA, also known as "The Salad Bowl". As an undergraduate student at San José State University, she majored in Psychology and later received her Masters Degree in Counseling and Guidance also at SJSU. In her previous role as Program Coordinator of TRIO SSS at Mission College, Gabriela provided leadership, direction and coordination for the program and developed partnerships with staff, faculty and helped provide an inclusive climate supportive of first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities. Gabriela is currently co-leading on the Frosh & Sophomore Advising Team. She enjoys making authentic connections with students, staff, and administrators in an effort to ensure a welcoming institutional culture is developed and sustained.

1. What are some of the places you have traveled to?
I have traveled throughout Mexico various of times! Some cities include: Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Oaxaca, Puebla, Mexico City, Cancun, Guanajuato, Mazatlan, Aguas Callientes, Acapulco, and border towns such as Encenada, Tijuana and Mexicali. I hope to continue exploring more of Mexico! I've also explored other countries and U.S. States & Territories such as: U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Oregon, Arizona, Florida, Canada, Costa Rica, Spain, France, Greece, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Austria, amd Czech Republic! I love to travel! Let's chat about where you have visited!

2. What piece of advice do you often share with SJSU students?

Get yourself a PLANNER! This helps you stay organized and keep track of your assignments and due dates, and block off study time! It really is a game-changer!
