The mission of the department is to be a recognized leader in translational biomedical research, to provide hands-on education focused on solving real world biomedical problems, and to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the service of human well being.

College of Engineering Mission Statement

The college mission is to enable our students to become socially responsible engineers and leaders in Silicon Valley and beyond through an accessible, world-class education.

San José State University Mission Statement

To enrich the lives of its students, to transmit knowledge to its students along with the necessary skills for applying it in the service of our society, and to expand the base of knowledge through research and scholarship.

Careers

The San Francisco Bay Area is home to more than 1,100 biomedical engineering companies, with more than 600 of them reported to be in manufacturing. In addition to the large multinational companies, there are numerous small start-up companies and mid-sized companies with 100 to 200 employees.
