Curriculum Overview
Students must complete a thesis or project as their culminating experience. In either case they must complete the required core courses and the appropriate number of electives to meet the university’s requirement of 30 semester units, as outlined below.

Electives
General Policy
- Required transition courses cannot be used as electives.
- Program of Study courses, for reinstatement after disqualification cannot be used as electives.
- No more than 9 units of undergraduate upper division (100 level) courses can be applied towards the M.S. degree.
- Engr 200W cannot be used as a technical elective.

Approved Technical Electives
Students should be aware that some of the listed courses may require prerequisites which would not normally be taken by BME students. Students should consult the instructor of the particular course(s) to determine if they are adequately prepared. Please be aware of the work load of each particular course before enrolling in it.
Biomedical Engineering Electives
9 units for Thesis Option and 12 units for Project Option.

Other SJSU Requirements
- Satisfy the CSU Graduate Writing Requirement (which may require an additional 3 units for Engr 200W)
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a C or better on all courses.
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a C or better on all courses are listed in the Candidacy form [pdf]
- Pass MS Project/Thesis Proposal presentation and final presentation.
- Students who are admitted to conditionally classified standing must satisfy the conditions, such as completing the assigned transition courses, and fill out and submit a Change of Classification form [pdf] when the conditions have been met.
