SJSU Response to Shelter-in-Place Order Extension

 SJSU campus community,

The Shelter-in-Place order instituted earlier this month by six Bay Area counties, including Santa Clara County, has been extended to May 3. The order had originally been issued through April 7. Unless arrangements have been made with a manager, department chair, or dean, employees are expected to continue working remotely for this period of time.

As Spartans, we must continue to do our part in preventing the spread of COVID-19. We understand the hardships the virus has caused emotionally, financially and physically, and we thank you for helping to “flatten the curve” through social distancing.

The campus remains open. The Spartan Food Pantry, University Housing, Village Market and the Dining Commons will continue to operate after spring break. Any changes to the availability of these services or facilities, including the Diaz Compean Student Union, will be communicated to the campus community.  

Reporting Cases of COVID-19 to Campus

With classes set to continue online after spring break, it remains an important priority for SJSU to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure on campus by adhering to updated social distance guidelines [pdf] announced on March 31 by the Santa Clara County Public Health Department. We understand that campus community members may contract COVID-19 while they are in their own respective stay-at-home setting, participating in remote learning, or working away from campus. You can file a report online if you have tested positive for COVID-19. 

SJSU will continue to directly contact any campus community members that might have been exposed to COVID-19. Any relevant updates will be posted on our Health Advisories website.

Parking

Although the shelter-in-place order is through May 3, Parking Services has developed a compensation plan that waives payroll deduction for parking for May and June. 

Any SJSU employee that is under a payroll deduction plan as of March 15, will not be charged for parking during May or June. If you do not see a return to your established payroll deduction in July, please reach out to Parking Services at parking@sjsu.edu.

For SJSU employees that purchased their parking via cash or check, please reach out to Parking Services at parking@sjsu.edu. We will work to adjust your parking permit expiration date. Note that the adjustment will take place from the effective date of March 15. 

As a reminder, be mindful of the signage in the parking lots. Continue to park in the designated areas for your parking permit.
