Reminder of Student Service; SRAC Increases Capacity; Updated Physical Distancing Protocol

Dear campus community,

I’m sure we can all agree this has been an unforgettable semester, and with only about six weeks left, it will be wrapping up quickly. For those who are looking for a place to study or complete class projects ahead of finals, I wanted to share a reminder about the Student Specialized Instructional Support Center in Ballroom A/B of the Diaz Compean Student Union.

The space is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and provides WiFi access and copiers. The ballroom currently is a ‘drop-in,’ with capacity for 53 students and arranged seating to ensure physical distancing. No group study or projects are allowed at this time. If demand increases, students will be able to reserve a table. Students will be notified if reservations are required.  

Prior to entering the Student Union, students must present their Tower ID and complete the COVID-19 self-check requirements.

Increasing Capacity at SRAC

Starting Wednesday, October 28, the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center (SRAC) will increase to 25 percent capacity and expand hours of operation to 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Reservations are still required, with seven one-hour time slots available each day. 

At this time, only enrolled students are allowed to use SRAC for weightlifting and individual half-court basketball. Beginning on Monday, November 9, SJSU faculty and staff with a SRAC membership will be eligible to reserve times to work out in SRAC. Memberships are available at the SRAC website.

The outdoor pool for lap swimming continues to remain open for reservations.

Although conditions in Santa Clara County continue to improve and allow SJSU to open up spaces like SRAC, it is imperative that we continue to follow the Spartan Community Promise and be socially responsible.

Updated Social Distancing Protocols

In accordance with the Santa Clara County Revised Risk Reduction Order issued on October 5, 2020, San José State University has completed and submitted an updated Social Distancing Protocol to the county. This is a requirement for all businesses operating in the County of Santa Clara, and must be provided to all employees. The Social Distancing Protocol Form [pdf] has been added to the SJSU Health Advisories site. COVID-19-related signage has been posted on building entrances throughout campus along with the Social Distancing Protocol Visitor Information Sheet.
