Students: Amplifying Your Voices (SAYV) is a student-led, student-focused place for students from San José State University’s College of Information, Data and Society who are members of communities or hold identities that are marginalized and underrepresented in the fields of library science, data science, and information science. SAYV is the second iteration of its precursor, Your Voices: Learning, Listening and Sharing and is commited to empowering each other through community building, professional development and resource sharing.

SAYV seeks to create more student-dedicated spaces to build communities for underrepresented and intersectional identities to form connections, support peer and professional development, and share resources that meet student needs and support. These initiatives include:

  • Community Learning Spaces: To facilitate interactions where students can freely exchange ideas or experiences with each other through Discord.
  • Discord Server: To create and maintain a safe space for students of all backgrounds and identities to build community and connections.
  • Podcast Series: “From the Fringes to the Foreground: Shining the Spotlight on Student Voices” will share conversations and interviews with iSchool and ADS students from diverse backgrounds concerning their identities and the work they’re doing in their communities.
