Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to announce that ChatGPT Edu is now available for all SJSU faculty and staff as part of the CSU-wide OpenAI Initiative. Provided at no cost, ChatGPT Edu supports our ongoing commitment to enhancing teaching, learning, and student success through innovative AI technology.
This new tool aligns closely with SJSU’s existing AI initiatives, including our dedicated AI website, Open-AI Faculty Training Strategy, upcoming AI Literacy Student Modules, and AI Writer’s Toolbox.
Accessing ChatGPT Edu:
You can set up your ChatGPT Edu account through either method below:
-
- SJSU Portal: Visit one.sjsu.edu starting Monday, April 21 at 9am for detailed setup instructions and additional resources.
- OpenAI Notification: You may also receive an email notification directly from OpenAI as early as Friday, April 18, or over the weekend, with instructions to activate your account.
Classroom Integration & Instructor Discretion:
The Center for Faculty Excellence and Teaching Innovation (CFETI) is offering instructors
new to using ChatGPT the following hands-on workshops:
-
- Wednesday, April 23, 12:00 - 1:30pm
- Tuesday, April 29 from 12:00 - 1:30pm
Please RSVP if you want to attend a live session or receive the recording later. Additional information will be coming soon about workshops for those who want to explore further, as well as additional training in early Fall 2025.
As always, instructors retain full authority to determine appropriate uses of ChatGPT Edu in your courses. Please clearly communicate your expectations regarding AI usage to students. Among the tools you will find tools at CFETI’s AI Pedagogical Resources page, the AI Policy Builder helps you create customized guidelines tailored to your instructional goals. In addition, to support transparency in student work, we also encourage you to explore the new Student AI Disclosure (SAID) tool. SAID offers students a simple way to document how they used AI in their assignments. It complements your AI policy and promotes a shared understanding of ethical and responsible AI use in the classroom.
Ethical Use Guidelines:
We strongly encourage you to explore the AI Writer’s Toolbox, created collaboratively by Writing Center staff and faculty, providing essential
guidance on ethical and responsible AI integration into academic practices.
