Dear Faculty and Staff,

The CSU system is currently rolling out ChatGPT-EDU to all 23 CSU campuses. This includes making ChatGPT-EDU, an AI-powered tool, available at no cost to all students, faculty, and staff. ChatGPT-EDU is a CSU-AI initiative that provides access to helpful technology and complement existing efforts to support student success.

The CSU Open AI Initiative is consistent with San Jose State’s  recent and ongoing AI efforts such as our AI website, and upcoming Open-AI Faculty Training Strategy, AI Tools Student Modules; and AI Writer’s Toolbox.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • ChatGPT-EDU will go live for all students, faculty, and staff on April 18, 2025.
  • Everyone will be notified via email on April 18, 2025 which will include instructions on how to access ChatGPT-EDU, enabling everyone to begin exploring its features and accelerate their learning right away.
    • Additional communication with students will affirm that they must consult with faculty regarding the appropriate use of ChatGPT-EDU for coursework and assignments, as the use of such tools is always at the discretion of the instructor. Faculty have the authority to set restrictions on the use of ChatGPT-EDU as with any other classroom-based tool and can use the AI Policy Builder to help with language for your classes.
    • Everyone is encouraged to review the AI Writer’s Toolbox, which was built in collaboration between Writing Center Staff and Faculty and provides a detailed outline on AI Ethical Use in the classroom.

Below are additional AI resources.

Sincerely,

Vincent J. Del Casino, Jr.
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
